Welcome, Year 28!

Last week, we kicked off our 28th program year!

25 folks eager to serve their country through National Service descended on St. Louis to begin their orientation and training before getting into environmental stewardship projects and disaster deployments. Members gained some background on the history of AmeriCorps St. Louis, all of our fun policies and procedures, CPR/First Aid training from the St. Louis Fire Department, and learned how to drive our beloved program vehicles (yes, Smokey is still around!). This week, they are headed to Current River State Park to begin learning field skills such as chainsaw use, hand tools, trail building, and more!

In addition to new AmeriCorps Members, this week we also onboard a new Staff member! Tim Elwell has joined our organization as our Development Manager. Tim comes to us with a background in radio and communications, and is currently enrolled in Indiana University’s Lilly School of Philanthropy Certificate of Fund Raising Management. Learn more about Tim here. We’re excited for Tim to help us boost our fundraising capacity!

And lastly, we have an update about our Amanda, our Director of Operations. On July 25th, Amanda and her family welcomed in Mason Alexander, the newest addition to their Amerifam! Congrats to the Henderson family on this exciting next chapter! We’re looking forward to having Amanda back in the office in a few weeks :)
