Hurricane Isaac Response in Louisiana

On September 11, 2012, the AmeriCorps St. Louis Emergency Response Team was called upon to assist with Hurricane Isaac relief efforts in the Louisiana Gulf Coast. Initially, 6 Emergency Response Team members were deployed to the Louisiana Parishes of St. John the Baptist, St. Charles, St. James, Orleans, Livingston, Washington, St. Bernard and Plaquemines. In October the mission was extended for an additional 30 days and more AmeriCorps members from both AmeriCorps St. Louis and other state/national direct programs joined in the recovery process.  These members provided volunteer management, community outreach to local non-profits and volunteer agencies to address volunteer documentation, and enhanced the capacity of  the long term recovery in St. John the Baptist, Plaquemines, and St. Tammany parishes.
