Flooding in Northwest Missouri

On August 12, 2011 the President declared a major disaster for Missouri (DR 4012) in response to the flooding in Northwest Missouri between June 1 and August 1, 2011.  The flooding forced many residents to evacuate the area and prompted the closing of major roadways, including Interstate 29, US Highway 136 and US Highway 159.  In some areas, this water sat in affected homes for 4 months! In Holt county alone, approximately 800 homes were affected and approximately 230 square miles were flooded, including significant areas of agricultural land.  The AmeriCorps St. Louis Emergency Response Team (ERT) was asked to assist in the long term recovery efforts, specifically in Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan and Holt Counties.
