From March 13-19, AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism, will celebrate AmeriCorps Week, and the millions of Americans who have pledged to “get things done” for America.

Getting off of the interstate and onto highway K, I felt like I was looking for something. Destruction. Havoc. Some sort of sign that this was the area that a tornado had come through.

Hiking is probably one of the most common activities we do as AmeriCorps Members. Whether it’s hiking to clear and maintain trail, hiking to get to a campground, hiking to build fireline, or hiking for fun! It comes with the territory when taking care of public lands. April 18 - 24th just happens to be National Parks Week, National Volunteer Week, and Earth Week! To celebrate, we’re highlighting the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, a beautiful region of Missouri that ACSTL Members serve in and help preserve.

AmeriCorps St. Louis is proud to be part of an all hands on deck effort this week to provide 24/7 emergency sheltering to the unhoused. We opened our shelter on Saturday evening, and will remain open into this next weekend, as temperatures remain below 20 degrees. This is unprecedented for us.
